13th SUMMER MAGIC OF CLASSICAL MUSIC - Mak Grgić/guitar

Mak Grgić, the artistic director of the Zagreb Guitar Festival, has been described by The New York Times as "imaginative, gifted, and expressive," and by The Washington Post as "a guitarist to keep an eye on." He is an innovative musician whose diverse activities in music encompass works from the avant-garde to film scores and major classical guitar repertoires. In the 2016/17 season, Mak will release new works under the MicroFest Records label, a prestigious Grammy Award winner.

Mak Grgić was born in Ljubljana and studied guitar in Zagreb under the mentorship of the esteemed professor Ante Čagalj at the Elly Bašić Conservatory. He graduated in the class of Alvaro Pierri at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna.

He recently completed his doctorate at the USC Thornton School of Music under the guidance of William Kanengiser and Scott Tennant from the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Currently, he teaches at Mount St. Mary's University in Los Angeles and serves as the artistic director of the M.A.R.S. Interdisciplinary Arts Festival and the Zagreb Guitar Festival.
